(VCstar.com) The Colorado Court of Appeals ruled Thursday that advanced-practice nurses can administer anesthesia without a doctor’s supervision, a ruling the prompted a warning by doctors that patients could suffer serious medical complications and receive inadequate care.
The court ruling came in response to a lawsuit filed by the Colorado Society of Anesthesiologists and the Colorado Medical Society seeking to stop the change. [Read more...]
(Hattiesburg American) HATTIESBURG — The University of Southern Mississippi will offer a degree-granting nurse anesthesia program.
Dr. Vickie Stuart, nurse anesthesia program director and assistant clinical professor at USM, says the new program will include 36 consecutive months of study and award a doctor of nursing practice degree.
Stuart says USM hopes for approval in October from the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs. Classes are set to begin in January 2013. [Read more...]
