Same nurse delivers patient’s 2nd child 16 years later

(WSVN) A mother set to give birth at a South Florida hospital was surprised to see the same nurse who delivered her first child 16 years ago walk in and deliver her second child.

Samantha Post was set to deliver her second child this week and she couldn’t believe the nurse that walked in. This story began 16 years ago at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Staten Island. “I remember her face. I remember her hair. I remember her name,” said Post.

Laurie Hirsch, a labor nurse from New York, helped Post deliver her first child in 1997. Post remembers Hirsch being so comforting. “I was scared to death. She is one of the reasons why I became a nurse. I remember saying, ‘I want to be that kind of nurse,'” said Post.

16 years later, and more then 1,200 miles away in Pembroke Pines, Post would give birth, and the same redhead with the heartwarming smile walked in. “I think God puts people in your life, and when things are meant to be, they’re meant to be,” said Post.

Post wasn’t supposed to deliver her baby at Memorial Hospital West, but fate led her to the same nurse in Hollywood at Memorial Regional. “I went into the room and immediately Samantha and I just looked at each other’s eyes, and I recognized her face,” said Hirsch.

Hirsch then helped Post deliver her baby boy, Christian. “She came in and again directed everything,” said Post.

“I’m sharing the most important experience of someone’s life, and then for someone to remember me 16 years later, I am so grateful,” said Hirsch.
