I received what I believe to be a spiritual calling to nursing in 2002, complete with an epiphany. I left the environmental remediation industry and have never looked back!! Nursing is handsdown the best thing I've ever been involved with. Every day have the opportunity to care for fellow veterans of all ages. We see everything from minor wounds to active heart attacks ; on any given day, I personally care for approximately 10—15 patients. I love this like nothing else I have ever done; incredibly fulfilling, humbling, and joyful.

Mary Whillock is my only sister. She has always been my mentor as she strives for excellence in all aspects of life. As the article states, she is one of a kind, full of compassion and empathy, well respected by her peers and has never asked for anything in return. The day this article came out, I recieved 6-7 e-mails from friends complimenting the article and her 'STYLE" . She has always been there for me and will remain the love of my life. She has two wonderful children that carry on her traditional "give all" touch. I want to say , thank you Mary, you are and always will be the greatest ever. Thanks for being you and having such a profound impact on my life as well as so many others.

Nursing Schools are full because there aren't enough instructors to expand their programs. Why? Because Nurse Educators salaries are not good enough. This discourages people from getting the advanced degrees necessary. But we need the nurses because as the population continues to age, there will be an enormous need. Projections are for at least 14 million with Alzheimer's dementia eventually - unless a cure is found. Someone will have to care for them in the later stages. The influx of men into the profession has been great. They are not interested in being martyrs. Plus they can lift patients more easily. It's a win-win. We love them. They do face some discrimination tho - in OB-GYN primarily. Strange isn't it - when the docs are mostly men!

Nursing careers is one of the best option provided you have the determination and right temperament in handling tough situations that may arise in your nursing career. You also need to be generous and kindly towards that patients and once you follow this you can win the heart and confidence of the patients. Otherwise you would never be able to succeed in nursing as a career and better stay off from it.

This is a great collection of information about the importance of nursing! Besides tuition reimbursements for faculty, there are lots of scholarship opportunities out there. I know of one in which the deadline is fast approaching! Loyola University in New Orleans is currently hosting a scholarships contest. They will be awarding five $4,500 scholarships to applicants who are chosen after submitting a 200 - 300 word essay that talks about what nursing means to them. The application is due by Thursday, March 23. Good luck!

I am an LPN in LTC in crnteal Illinois. I guess my facility is average. I make around $36,000 per year including OT. We don’t. Get bonuses or anything like that. But I think were all worth more monetary compensation but the relationships I have with my residents are a compensation that can’t be measured because that is priceless.GD Star Ratingloading...

BO is fiinshg for support of his health care plan – and is using RNs to leverage his fight. I’m surprised the ANA doesn’t see past the White House’s scripts & teleprompters – & know it’s eing USED. Of course it’s free publicity for the ANA too I guess so it’s a 2 way street. It’s just so fake.

In the orannizatiogs that do relief work, they require you to have a license which can be in any of the states. Most of these relief workers are under a doctor’s supervision so you would not be working alone although you may be allowed more independence as a nurse practitioner especially if it was in an area where you were doing inoculations to large numbers. Once it was set up under a doctor you may be the only medical person there but a doctor would still be responsible for your work. The best thing for you to do would be to contact one of the groups like the Red Cross & see what their rules & conditions were so you know what to do. Working in these groups is a great way to help in disaster areas & helping 3rd world people.Good luck.
