Carolyn F. Scanlan, longtime leader of Hospital & Healthsystem Association, will step down

(PennLive) The Hospital & Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania said today that longtime President and CEO Carolyn F. Scanlan will retire at the end of the year. HAP also named her successor, Andrew W. Carter, who has headed the Washington, D.C.-based Visiting Nurse Association of America since 2007.

Scanlan headed HAP, which is a trade association for Pennsylvania hospitals, for 18 years.

Carter previously was president of the Ohio Children’s Hospital Association. HAP said he has knowledge of hospitals, patient care in all settings, state and federal oversight of health care, Medicaid and Medicare, and association leadership. He has a degree in American government from Georgetown University and a master of public policy degree from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.
